Tips for Effective Visualization

One of my favorite workshops to teach is "Visualizing Your Future Self," which focuses on how to manifest the things you want in your life. In this workshop, I talk about setting the groundwork by clearing out the things in your life that no longer serve you, identifying the things that energize you, identifying what you would like in your life, then using visualization to make it a reality. While I can't offer the whole workshop experience in this newsletter, below, are several tips for effective visualization:

  • Remember to go into your visualization with a relaxed, positive, loving attitude

  • Acknowledge, and release, any unsupportive thoughts or feelings. This does not mean that you have to get rid of them completely, but rather, try to not dwell on them or cling to them, so that you can release their hold on you.

  • Ignore the voices in your head that keep telling you what you should be doing rather than what will make you truly happy

  • Continue to visualize as long as you need in order to achieve want you want – there is no set time frame for it

  • Always frame your visions and affirmations in a positive manner, in the present tense

  • It is okay to revise or even let go of goals that no longer appeal to you

  • Don’t think of yourself in this process as being “successful” or not – just enjoy the process and see what you discover

  • Give thanks, often, for the great things that do come into your life
